Stepping Into Your Second Act: Why Women 40+ Make Extraordinary Writers
Ever discovered something new popping up on the inside even though the external is a little bit weathered by the environment. Its a bit like everyone’s individual journey. There is always something growing and as we start a new year - its a great time to hope again.

There’s a quiet revolution happening — and if you’re a woman over 40, you’re probably feeling it. A tug. A whisper. A sense that the stories you’ve carried for decades are finally asking to be written.
I know that feeling well.
When I stepped into writing more seriously, I wasn’t a fresh‑faced twenty‑something with endless time and no responsibilities. I was in my forties - a daughter, an aunt, a sister, a working woman, a community member — someone who had lived, loved, lost, rebuilt, and learned. My writing didn’t come from theory. It came from life. Disappointments, betrayals, misconceptions, failures, waiting, failing – living.
And that, I’ve learned, is the greatest gift women 40+ bring to the page.
🌿 You’re Not Starting Late — You’re Starting Ready
By the time you reach your forties, you’ve lived enough life to understand:
nuance
conflict
longing
resilience
being judged
being told who you ought to be
being told what you ought to be doing
being told who should be doing it with
the quiet ache of dreams deferred
the joy of rediscovering yourself
These are the very ingredients that make stories unforgettable.
You’re not “behind.” Life has peppered you as we say in Nigeria – or shall I say life has prepared you.
You’ve gathered characters, settings, and emotional truths without even realising it. Every job you’ve worked, every relationship you’ve navigated, every cultural thread you’ve held onto — all of it becomes material.
Your Voice Has Ripened
When I teach workshops, I see it instantly: women 40+ write with a depth that can’t be faked. There’s a confidence in the way you observe the world, a clarity in the way you express emotion, and a authenticity stories flow from your reservoir of life and experiences that have shaped you in ways that your writing reveals.
You’ve lived through eras — literal and personal. You’ve witnessed change. You’ve survived transitions. You’ve reinvented yourself more than once. Yeah I felt it one day when I realised that my life experience has spanned dial phones, cassettes’, CDs, MP3s and organising my life on a tiny object I carry around 24/7.
Maybe that’s why I write historical fiction from time to time. A desire to write about lived experiences that happened before I was even born?
That lived experience becomes your superpower on the page.
Your Story Matters — Even If You’ve Been Told It Doesn’t
Many of us grew up in cultures where women were encouraged to be quiet, helpful, invisible. But something shifts in midlife.
You begin to realise that:
your voice is not a luxury
your creativity is not a hobby
someone is waiting to hear what you have been sitting on for years.
It’s legacy.
When I wrote A Nurse’s Tale and my Nigerian romance stories, I wasn’t just writing fiction — I was preserving memory, culture, and the voices of women who rarely see themselves reflected in mainstream narratives. That’s what many women 40+ are called to do: write the stories that were missing when we were younger.
Why Now Is the Perfect Time
Women in midlife often tell me: “I don’t know where to start.” “I feel rusty.” “I’m not sure I’m good enough.”
But here’s the truth: You’ve already started. You’ve been gathering material for decades.
What you need now is:
structure
guidance
community
and a gentle push
That’s exactly why I created my digital products — to give women like you the tools, confidence, and clarity to finally step into your writing life.
